Why play games for yourself when you can watch others play them for you and listen to their snide remarks while they do?
This is the concept of the Let’s Play Archive, a concept originating from the Something Awful Forums, where someone would make a thread about a game they were going to record themselves playing for nostalgia, or perhaps a lost bet, with commentary included, for the enjoyment of others. Sometimes it was just something really obscure or a game that few even had access to due to production limits or device cancellation, or perhaps it was merely just a truly horrible game and some person wants the internet to know just how horrible it is.
In any case, a lot of these are damn entertaining, and a few clips make for an excellent lunch break when you’re bored. Especially check out some of the LPs done by a fellow named Slowbeef. He started some of the early, extremely hilarious, LPs on Something Awful and soon became the moderator of a subforum dedicated the “Let’s Play” threads.
(For that matter, his playthrough of The Immortal is pure gold. He is probably one of the only people in the world who was actually able to beat that damn game.)
Have some laughs. There’s something for everyone there, definitely a game from everyone’s past that they vaguely remember and partially enjoyed.
