Who doesn’t love a good game of Super Mario, am I right?
Well, that’s basically what this is. A poorly disguised clone of the legendary plumber himself.
But don’t let that fool you, Secret Maryo Chronicles is a quite ambitious and very awesome project. It is free, open-source, and has an entire community of contributors to make the game even better.
Did I mention there’s also a Level Editor?
If you feel so inclined, they welcome contributions too. If you’re a programmer, an artist, a musician, or an astrophysicist, I’m sure there is something you can add to the mix to help the folks out and get your name on this wonderful open project.
I will warn you that this game is in pretty early stages though. That isn’t to say that it’s bad by any means, it’s just a work in progress. The art and sound effects aren’t quite perfect, and the controls are a bit too touchy (precision platforming feels more like playing Sonic than Super Mario World) but there’s too much else going for this game to knock it. Music is an add-on package, by the way, so don’t think they just left it out. Even so, it beats the tar out of the majority of Flash Mario games (it even works on Linux and Mac)
I really want to see this project progress, so don’t keep it a secret. Spread the word and give it a try.
Also, these folks work on this game for Donations, so please keep that in mind if you enjoy their work and want to see it grow and improve too.
